Riderscan project launches new survey on Intelligent Transport Systems

Intelligent Transport Systems, or ITS, describes the application of technology to transport with the aim of improving efficiency or safety.

The Riderscan project, led by FEMA, is designed to address motorcycle safety issues by collecting information which will, for the first time, allow comparison of situations, fleets, populations and policies between countries and regions across Europe.

The Riderscan project has now launched the third and final survey aimed at European motorcyclists. The objective to draw a European map of rider awareness and acceptance of ITS technologies as applied to motorcycles & motorcycle safety.

The survey results will be used to build a database for use by road safety professionals in Europe and across the world.

As a founder member of FEMA, MAG Ireland encourages Irish riders to participate in the Riderscan project because we believe in evidence led policy based on solid, properly researched, and publicly available data.

The survey is divided in 2 main sections:

1) About yourself and your mobility habits – should take less than five minutes to complete.

2) About Intelligent Transport Systems as applied to motorcycling – between 15 and 20 minutes depending on how familiar you are with the topic.

The survey will run for three months and preliminary results will be presented at the next European Motorcyclists Forum on March 5th, 2014 in the European Parliament, Brussels.
