RSA: 43% of learner permit holders drive unaccompanied

According to a recent press release by the RSA, some 43% of learner permit holders drive unaccompanied. The statement goes on to note:

Of the 2200 drivers checked, 43% (946) were un-accompanied by a full licence holder, and 30% (660) were not displaying L plates. In some cases both offences were committed by the same driver.

Of further interest are the figures for those driving on learner permits, a total of 235,984 in all. Of those 2,207 (over 9%) are on their tenth (or more) learner permit.
