A statement from Harley Davidson Club of Ireland (HDCI)

It is with deep regret that MAG Ireland are posting the following statement from our friends at HDCI (Harley Davidson Club of Ireland) which relates to the upcoming 2013 Super Rally which was to take place in Waterford City on 16th May 2013.

Harley Davidson Club Ireland (HDCI) is sorry to announce that we have had to cancel next years European SuperRally® (40th anniversary) event, which was due to be held on 16th to 20th May 2013 at Waterford Institute of Technology Sports Campus, Carriganore, Waterford.

Following consultations with An Garda Siochana, it was determined that a significant level of policing supports and resources to effectively police the event safely were necessary. The cost for providing the policing plan was estimated that it could rise to or beyond €300,000, making it cost prohibitive for the club to host the five day event in Ireland.

On behalf of the committee we would like to apologise for the late cancellation, especially to those of you who have already made travel and accommodation plans. Unfortunately, these were circumstances which were beyond our control.

HDCI would also like to thank all stakeholders including; Waterford City & County Councils, City Manager, WIT Campus Services, Waterford Spraoi, Michael Slattery Associates, Failte Ireland, Federation Harley Davidson Clubs of Europe, Stenna Ferries, An Garda Siochana, all local political representatives and members of Harley Davidson Club Ireland for their help and assistance.

We wish every success to Harley Davidson Club Poland who will now be hosting the 2013 SuperRally® event. Harley Davidson Club Ireland

MAG Ireland is all too aware of the huge effort it takes to promote Ireland as a suitable destination for a global event such as the Super Rally. The organising committee at HDCI have excelled themselves and deserve the respect, gratitude and congratulations from all bikers in Ireland for achieving this outstanding win against other HDC clubs World wide, with deeper pockets and better lobbying facilities. It is truly (and remains) a phenomenal achievement by a dedicated motorcycle club in the South East of Ireland.

Congratulations lads, great job. It is regretful that this effort has been cut short at the last hurdle.
