Please find attached a poster for our “Ride Out with Lakers” event which will take place on Sunday the 13th May 2012.
BrayLakers (Lakers Social & Recreational Club ltd) is a community-based sports, social and recreation club for children and adults with a primary diagnosis of intellectual disability who may also have a duel diagnosis of Autism, Mental Health or a Physical disability. The club provides a wide range of sporting and educational services to members across Leinster from its centre in Bray, Co. Wicklow.
We have been in operation since 1989 and to date; Bray Lakers has almost 400 members. The combination of a dedicated centre, 7 full time equivalent staff and the engagement of 130 volunteers, enable the organisation to deliver a top-class service to its members and community.
The overall aim of BrayLakers is to enable children and adults with an intellectual disability to develop their innate skills and self-esteem in an environment which is inclusive and supportive.
We run over 30 activities including football, golf, walking, bowling, swimming, basketball, gymnastics, skiing, martial arts, athletics, bocce, drama, art, pottery classes, cooking classes, drumming, music, dancing and computers. To see the full list please visit www.brayakers.ie/activities
We have been gifted a site for our new centre, plans for the new centre include a multi-purpose sports hall suitable for basketball, badminton, volleyball, a bocce court, as well as specially designed facilities for art and drama rooms, computer rooms and kitchens, all designed specifically for people with varying levels of disability. The plans also include a “sensory room” and a garden to stimulate members with more extreme disabilities, as well as the “Drop-in Centre” which is so vital to members and their families as it allows them to casually call in to the centre and catch up with friends whenever suits.
We need €2.9m to build our new home and we are organising many fundraising events to help us reach this target. Ride Out with Lakers is one such event. We would be extremely grateful if you could help promote this event by printing this poster and displaying it in a prominent place.
