Bikers raise over €23,000 for Crumlin Childrens' Hospital
Glorious sunshine and tropical temperatures favoured the annual Two Ton Run
last Sunday 10th August. Organised by Tipperary biker Brendan Power and
supported by MAG Ireland (The Irish Motorcyclists' Action Group) and IRTA
(The Irish Rider Training Association) the Run raised over €23,000 in
sponsorship for the Children's Medical and Research Foundation of Our
Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin.
Over 150 motorcycles took part in an almost 200 mile long ride through some
of the most beautiful countryside in Munster starting out at the beautiful
12th century castle on the river Suir in Cahir, Co Tipperary. Exceptionally
good weather added to the enjoyment of participants as they toured from the
historic castle through picturesque villages, over mountain passes and
along some of Ireland's most scenic coastal roads. After a much-needed
lunch break in Dungarvan, the convoy of bikers returned to Cahir via
another series of twisty and steep mountain roads.
Organiser Brendan Power was said to be delighted with the level of support
for the Run and with the amount of money raised for the Childrens' Research
Centre which conducts research into all the major diseases and ailments
which affect children and is entirely supported by voluntary funds. Martin
Cahill, Development Executive for the Centre thanked participants for their
fundraising efforts on behalf of the Hospital, which is one of the largest
hospitals in Europe devoted exclusively to children.
Brendan hopes to organise next year's run to take in the coastal roads of
the west of Ireland and is confident that motorcyclists will continue to
lend their support in raising funds for essential research into children's
illnesses.
